The Mummy, My Sister’s Ancient Egypt Expertise, and Some Sassy New Merch
This week, I indulged in one of my favorite guilty pleasures: The Mummy. Because who can resist Brendan Fraser’s gunslinging or Rachel Weisz declaring “Take that, Bembridge Scholars!” with a confidence I aspire to daily? But this time, I had a special viewing partner—my sister, who knows a lot about ancient Egypt. Watching The Mummy with her is… an experience.
To give you some context, my sister has a deep well of knowledge about ancient Egypt and a very limited tolerance for Hollywood nonsense. So, naturally, she spent half the movie correcting hieroglyphs. And as someone who lives for a good academic takedown, I was thoroughly entertained. But amidst all the eye-rolls and commentary, we had a realization: We need to make merch…also we should probably start a Mystery Science Theater 3000 style YouTube channel where we watch “historical” movies because we are HILARIOUS, but I’m still trying to sell her on that.
So, inspired by Evy’s legendary Bembridge Scholars line and fueled by our sibling snark, we came up with some new designs. The first one is a winged scarab emblazoned with Evy’s rallying cry: “Take that, Bembridge Scholars!” Think of it as a tribute to all the badass women in history (and present-day) who’ve been told they don’t belong in certain spaces—and who responded with a resounding “watch me.”
The second design is for my fellow Swifties who’d be right at home in the land of the pharaohs. It’s a cartouche spelling out “Swiftie” in hieroglyphs because, frankly, if the ancient Egyptians were around today, you know they’d be vibing to Taylor’s eras.
So, if you love The Mummy, appreciate some ancient Egypt-inspired humor, or just want to add a little sass to your wardrobe, these designs were made for you. Check them out in the store, wear them proudly, and remember—history is way more fun when you add a bit of irreverence. And thank my sister for designing the Swiftie Cartouche because I know NOTHING about hieroglyphics, and she learned all about them at Oxford (ooh, fancy.)
Take a look, embrace the snark, and, as always, stay curious, stay cheeky, and never let the Bembridge Scholars get you down.
