Thank you for writing this. The meeting reminds me of a job interview for which there was an inside candidate. Somehow I was to blame for how uncomfortable the committee members were.
My sympathies! That the director of the National Museum of American History should be subjected to this level of ritual humiliation is even more appalling.
Only this is the history that every person will see until someone fixes it. And who knows what that will take? It makes me want to put my nation's capital off of my bucket list of destinations to visit. The Smithsonian would be a must do attraction if I were to go. Possibly devoting 2 days to it because I often take my time in museums. The reflecting pool would have been another place I'd want to go. This administration is ruining everything, and Idk what it will take for them to stop. Whatever it is. We need to figure it out and start doing it.
Discernment is key. Personally make your own judgements what can be trusted.
For instance, I believe in science, but I can no longer trust dot gov websites or the CDC. I have to find other sources (doctors, scholarly institutions, my own common sense).
But, eventually the anti science control freaks will grind progress down, and we’ll be the third world country that they have envisioned.
The news is another good example. Social sciences, another. (They never were eating the pets.)
Truth will survive. It won’t be welcomed in our American institutions. We have so much to mourn.
Imagine actually VISITING the museum before criticizing it.
And I want an America of equality - neither one of us are gonna be happy with what we have got. Damn truth - ruins everything.

I JUST went through a similar job interview that immediately hired the internal candidate.

This whole situation reminds me of the hearings a bout communism in the 50s.

100%
And I’m not just saying that because she’s my mom.
