A vetoed Arizona bill tried to staple adoption messaging onto contraception and STI care, because apparently the anti-abortion movement has decided condoms need a motherhood exit strategy.
Part of the reason I joined the Unitarian church was for my 13 y/o to have the Our Whole Lives (OWL) program (https://www.uua.org/lifespan/owl). He knows he can come to me with any questions he has; at the same time, I want him to have a space for anything he doesn’t want to share with Mom. (I am even thinking about becoming trained to be an OWL facilitator myself.)
Yeah.. Dobbs needs to be narrowed and Congress must pick up the baton! As someone highly affected by adoption in life (negatively) I knew in 2022 eventually the handmaid's tale adoption piece of it all would eventually show it's ugly head. They're back to trying to FORCE authority figures to tell teenaged girls what a "precious gift" they can give to someone. As if it is something that is quick and painless and provides them with anything.
As an adoptee, I NEVER ASKED TO BE HERE.
as an unfortunate woman who was forced in her teenage years to give birth in an adoption situation, I NEVER WANTED ANY OF IT.
I am forever enraged another woman will have to go through what I went through. There are no flowers, rainbows, extended family, anything that was "promised" to me was a downright lie. It's only brought me years of pain and judgement from others.
I'm sure I'll be facing trolls in your comments now. Adoption is an unethical lie. Newborns should never be for sale.
