Bitchy History Book Club
AKA: ProfessorMeredith's attempt to use peer pressure to actually plow through her TBR pile.
You all know that this is true:
And I am incredibly guilty of this. I buy books constantly, but reading them…well, that’s a different story. I’ll read the parts I need for research, but finishing one? That’s a whole different kettle of fish.
This can’t be the same brain that read a new book every other day in junior high…
But I digress. I have a large selection of historical nonfiction and a few fiction books that I think are incredibly relevant, and I would like to read or re-read them. So I’d like to start a book club.
Basically, we’ll pick a book, and I’ll create a schedule for it. We’ll read a chapter or two and then meet up for either a Zoom call or a TikTok live (whatever works best for the size of the group involved) to discuss what we’ve read.
For fiction books like The Stepford Wives or Patriot’s Intrigue, we’ll read them and discuss the relevant historical period in which they were written or set and how they relate to modern issues as well.
(Additionally, if you want to participate but cannot afford the book in question, please let me know. I will see how I can make the book accessible for you.)
In the future, those involved with the book club will be able to suggest books as well!
