I did not have this movie on my (admittedly short) summer movie watching list. I’m reconsidering that now. Unrelated note: many years ago when Tommy Thompson (R) was governor of Wisconsin, there was a famous headline about all his vetoes that said: Thompson’s pen is a sword.” Unfortunately, or not, the justification in the typesetting process made it read, “Thompson’s penis a sword.” 30-plus years later it still makes me laugh. And your headline brought it all back to me!

That’s hilarious!

I can't believe you made that worth watching. They should quote you on the poster.

I’d except any and all endorsement opportunities. I was not expecting to like the movie so much at all.

Wow. "That may be the film’s smartest decision. Adam does not need to outgrow empathy before becoming heroic. His empathy is what makes him capable of using power without being consumed by it."

This was surprisingly wholesome. I... did not expect that from a movie featuring He-man and Skeletor. :)

I knew Skeletor just from memes, I confess, but it was enough to get some idea of the toxicity associated with the character.

A very entertaining read, with a moral. Thank you.

Gotta have a moral. I commit to the bit.

We went to watch it specifically because of your recommendation! We had a blast, and the line about the sword dangling between Adam's magnificent thighs *broke* my teenager. Two days later, they still haven't recovered 🤣

I was WHEEZING in that theater. And then he called him a “naughty boy” and I was done. Tapped out. Immediately loved it.

This is my favourite film review of all time, and one that proves that in many cases the pen *is* mightier than the sword.

This sounds brilliant. I can’t wait to watch it.

It is genuinely hilarious and I’m going to buy it as soon as possible.

i went and saw this movie purely for nicholas galatzine in a loincloth and i left the theater with tears in my eyes and a giant smile. this movie was everything i wanted it to be and more and you articulated the purpose of it so well. it was so refreshing to see a big macho oiled up man be goofy and awkward and ultimately, incredibly empathetic and kind. i would absolutely recommend this movie to anyone.

I loved everything about this movie it was irreverent and goofy and if you expected anything more than that, that’s on you IMO more silly middle school humor puhleeze

ProfessorMeredith's avatar

I mean yes, but there very much was more to it imo

Oh for sure! I meant my comment more towards anyone who didn’t appreciate the savvy approach to what could be pretty challenging writing material. I also unabashedly love the fast and the furious movies because sometimes dumb funny action is just that and that’s ok

> There’s at least five other points I would like to discuss about this film, but I’ll wait until I can purchase it and watch it again so I can get the quotes I need.

If I hadn't read your critique, it would never have occurred to me to see this movie. Now I am intrigued and look forward to seeing it when it's free on streaming. Thanks!
